Twelve artists come together to deliver a fascinating showcase of printmaking, including prints that break with tradition. You will be astounded by how many applications these artists from Blackstone Print Studio have discovered. A variety of printmaking techniques are used to create pieces that stand alone, but also many that become the basis for collage, painted prints, sculptures, and other forms of mixed media. These artists work independently to create a diverse body of work, both in method and composition. However, the Blackstone Print Studio also collectively shares their discoveries and are committed to the inherent elements of surprise and versatility that come with the printmaking process.

Four artists will demonstrate different techniques in our galleries on Saturday, October 26 from 1:00-4:00 PM in a unique opportunity to interact with printmaking materials and tools.

Casey Hickey will be demonstrating how she has created her series, “Small Town America”, for Freedom of the Press, using a miniature 3D-printed etching press. Participants will be guided through the process of etching, inking, and printing their own drypoint prints.

Sally Bowditch and Susan Mampre will demonstrate two simple monoprint methods. One technique, the reductive method, involves the wiping of ink off a plate with a variety of tools. The other utilizes objects set between two plates to create two prints.

Kathy Murray’s demonstration will showcase the joy of printing without a press and give the audience an opportunity to make prints using a gel plate, stencils, stamps, and other materials.
