Special programming this October:

Join us at Teen Night this October 28 and engage with contemporary art through printmaking demonstrations, as part of our current exhibition on view in the West Gallery, Blackstone Print Studio: Freedom of the Press. These demonstrations are free and open to all teens and their families.

Casey Hickey will demonstrate how she has created her series, Small Town America, using Akua inks and plates, printed on a miniature 3D-printed etching press. Participants will get 2″ x 3″ acrylic plates, and will be guided through the process of etching, inking, and printing their own drypoint prints.

Charlotte Eckler will show how to make a unique work using simple techniques. Referencing old surrealist prints, imagery will be printed on unconventional papers and maps. Participants will ink up objects such as feathers, washers, coins, buttons, and keys to create an image on paper folded in half pressed between pages of a book. Eckler will also bring her own “deflate-plate,” which allows artists to create prints from a deflated basketball.

Sally Bowditch will showcase the joy of printing without a press and give the audience an opportunity to create prints using gel plates. Experiment with fun techniques such as stenciling, using textured materials, and applying ink with brushes and rollers.

All materials provided. Take your prints home at the end of the night!
