About Material Needs 2022

During the past year, nine artists have been busy making use of the Material Needs Grant they won in 2021. Those awards, ranging from $500 to $1,500, fund the cost of supplies required to make new artwork in Worcester County. A year and a half later, awardees exhibit their completed artwork in a group exhibition.

The 2021-2022 grants funded a variety of materials, such as copper sheets, glass, film, electronics, and fabrics. This year’s exhibition includes enamel works inspired by African textile patterns, fiber portraits of historical women connected to the City of Worcester, extruded ceramic sculptures, an immersive oil-painting installation, and more.

To date, eighty-two artists have had their careers advanced through a Material Needs Grant. Thank you to the anonymous donor who makes this possible.
