Diversions

Inspired by: Harold Edgerton, Milkdrop Coronet

mixed media, watercolor, oil pastel, glue, and acrylic paint

34” x 26.5”

2016

$1,000

Diversions is part of a series of work exploring line drawing with a glue/acrylic paint mixture. This was an experiment in letting the line lead the image, filling in spaces using watercolor and oil pastels, and leaving white spaces. I chose to connect this piece with Harold Edgerton’s “Milkdrop Coronet” because of the various shades of dark red to pink, as well as the rounded shape of the splash that is similar to the circular shapes in my painting.

Cherry Guitar & Tambourine

Oil Enamel on Canvas

12” x 24”

2023

The purpose of the Abominable Amalgamation series is to have an escape in my art space. While I have been a collage artist, painter, and drawer before beginning, this series allows me to let go of what I thought I knew about my past work, process, and expectations for myself. I was able to start completely fresh, without any abandon, by just all-but-throwing my materials at the canvas. And that was exactly what I needed in my creative work – some escapism and something new, to teach and remind me of my instincts while getting a message across in the work.

Rosie

watercolor, colored pencil and beadwork

14.25” x 17.25” framed

2022

This is the first complete piece in a series I am creating of watercolors embellished with beaded embroidery. This combines my history of beading which dates back to my childhood, and my love of watercolor. This series depicts local and not so local musicians and their instruments with patterns and flora. This is Rosie of Rosie Porter and the Neon Moons, from Western Massachusetts.
