American Oligarchy, Then & Now

Inspired by: Kenro Izu, Blue #1010B Unknown Artist, Vase

oil paint

12″ x 19 3/4″

2025

$2,600

As soon as I saw the contorted nude Blue #1010B by Kenro Izu, it made me think of the slaves, naked in wells of the ships, treated worse than cargo. This was human grease enabling the building of an oligarchy class during the earliest days of our nation. It suppressed the workers economically, and every way, for the enrichment of a special level of society. Now in 2025 that suppression has come into the daylight again with the same tools of control, again over all aspects of our daily life and laws. Soon, “we won’t have a pot to piss in.”

Recycled Soup

Inspired by: John Willis, Recycled Realities 1 Evelyn Rydz, Gulf Pile

oil pastels and mixed media on Strathmore paper and recycled materials

14.25″ x 22″

2023

I had started this painting a year ago of our in the house recycling paper bag that featured the Campbell’s Soup can prominently. (I’m not a huge Warhol fan). The recycling theme expanded for the “Impact” show and I used mainly personal effects on the frame including my last FAM artwork tag, and pieces of my “Work Series” show stands used in Boston and the Washington DC Mall to create the frame.

Naked in the Bubbles

oil paint

14.75″ x 15.125″

2022

This painting was inspired by another “Bubbles” painting I had recently completed. I decided that having the human form would provide a feeling of identifiable three dimensional depth of the bubbles. ‘Skinny Dipping’ came to mind as a shared experience where many would have experienced the feelings of all the tiny bubbles rising and tickling across your entire body as they rise. It is a lifelong naughty experience we have found to be so exciting, forbidden and memorable.
