The Absence of Thought

Inspired by: Kenro Izu, Blue #1010B Joyce Tenneson, Fork Shaped Tree

The absence of thought is a state of mental stillness that can lead to inner peace and self-awareness. This view was photographed 1 mile from my house and is a place that I can clear my head and communicate with nature and all it can give me in return. The inspiration of Picasso’s Blue Period painting set the mood for the this piece. My body casts a shadow on the painting which reminds me that I am present, alone with my thoughts in my subconscious mind, as well as physical state of being.

This Is It

oil on wood panel

16″ x 20″

2024

Vincent’s, formerly Stoney O’ Brian’s, is one of the last remaining classic bars that offers live music. I am fascinated with capturing the exterior of this landscape with a thick cerulean blue atmosphere that matches the intrigue of how a building so simple and untouched can be sought after and filled with so many music lovers for many years. This modern day view reminds us of what Worcester was and still is in the hearts of the community despite all of the changes that are happening to the Worcester landscape. “This Is It” pays homage to a popular landmark.

Fortify These Notions

acrylic on canvas

24″ x 36″

2015

This painting is a reminder to find strength and courage within ourselves. We can have a notion of just what kind of person we would like to be in times of grief or struggle. When the physical body is broken the mental and the emotional state of health can be broken. This painting symbolizes the process of repair.

Avalanche

Inspired by: Paul Quain, Loading Cattle, Aran

oil on canvas

24″ x 30″

2024

When I think of the American chicken industry, I can see this massive avalanche of chickens in overwhelming quantities touching each other suffocating others chickens in their path. Chickens that are raised for their flesh are treated like inanimate objects and are confined to massive sheds that hold tens of thousands of birds each. Frustrated birds peck at one another and cause injury or even death. Such intensive confinement also breeds filth and disease. Avalanche became a metaphor to me about the devastation and challenges that factory chicken farming industry brings to our environment. You are what you eat.
