Deborah Kaplan

photography, digital, fiber arts

The texture of nature, the shifting of elements against each other, the sensation of walking through the woods, weaving in and out all inform Deborah’s work. The elements are often abstracted, simplified, complicated in some way as a reinterpretation of the nominally seen. Imagery that informs the work include petroglyphs, calligraphy, and interacting rhythms of nature as a form of language. The work often starts with one or more photographic images, deconstructed and reconstructed to produce images brought into the physical world as archival ink prints. Some of Deborah’s woven work has informed the simplification process, just as some digital work has expressed itself in woven form – a conversation of elements.
