painting, drawing
Rhythms and energies are stuck in my head, inspired by music, books, places, and my own distracted thoughts. I let them incubate until my mind requires that I release them onto paper. Using Prismacolor markers, I create rapid, rhythmic compositions in my sketchbook that oscillate between macro and micro. These paintings translate the energy from the marker sketches onto a larger scale. Using a grid and working block by block, these drawings are mediated and transferred with paint onto larger canvases. This is a cycle of impulsivity and compulsivity. What comes to me automatically now has the opportunity to be meticulously considered and rendered. The process enables me to slowly appreciate the instinctual marks my hands make during a spontaneous moment brought on by an urge to create. The paintings are a monument of these expressive periods.
