/WOODCUT AND WOODCUT ENGRAVING: CRAFT AND ART
Evan Charney
Project Spaces

/STATEMENT
My goal is to create an original and beautiful work of art. Yes, pretentious, but goals are meant to be aspirational and not easily achieved.
Three indicators measure its success: First, printmaking is as much craft as art, and the work should display technical skill, the craftsmanship evident. Second, the design should be interesting, the composition dynamic. And third, the work should elicit an emotional reaction: it should resonate with the viewer.
The best indicator of success is that you enjoy living with the work and continue to contemplate it over time.
