/PEOPLE AND THEIR PETS
Julia Mongeon
Material Needs 2024
September 5 - October 20, 2024
materials funded: gouache, pencils, markers
People and Their Pets is a whimsical exploration of humans and their closest companions. Julia Mongeon’s colorful gouache portraits highlight the connection of each subject to their pet, and to their distinctly rich cultural background. Though each work is a separate portrayal of different people, animals, and cultures, Mongeon encourages the viewer to step back to see the repetition of motifs and colors and to view the collection as a whole. Each piece is unique, but connected to those surrounding it.
This collection is a celebration of our differences, and what makes us all undeniably alike: the connections we make with the world around us, which enrich our lives for the better.
