Driving home, I stopped on a hunch and walked down a West Boylston road. This was frame 37 on the camera roll and a minute before I lost the light.

Tapa #2
Inspired by: Unknown artist, Tapa Cloth
digital drawing, pigment on paper
34″ x 28″
2023
I am intrigued by what seemed to be a fragment of a border of a much larger piece, and what did that look like? Is this all that’s left? The entire Togan village made cloth by peeling and beating tree bark with mallets, then gluing the resulting strips together. The overall pattern was transferred onto the cloth with inked rollers and wood blocks. This contrasted with me sitting at a computer with stylus and keyboard. Working with grids and repeating patterns, however is not different. Artists also rely on a community for hardware, media, services to produce work.

Playa Junquillal, CR Sunset
digital capture photo, metal print
12″ x 15″
2024
This was our first sunset in Costa Rica. Hoof prints made during a morning walk are just now being washed away by the high tide. The metal print conveys the sunset’s glow. You can almost hear the roar of the surf.

Your eye creates an expectation for your experience, with food, the visual presentation is critical. Conversely, your experience determines what you see. Believing is Seeing.
