The Future is Now! Introducing Our New Arts Administration Apprenticeship, Future Arts Workers of Worcester
ArtsWorcester has begun a new paid apprenticeship for select Worcester Public high school students, to learn the basics of arts administration. The program, Future Arts Workers of Worcester (FAWW), teaches project planning, budgeting, marketing, production, and more.
Fifteen students from public schools across Worcester were accepted last spring for the program. They now meet weekly for the duration of the academic year to work on their project and meet with young professionals in other city arts and cultural organizations, to grow their knowledge and their own networks. Their work culminates with their own exhibition, opening at ArtsWorcester in May, 2025.
Participating students in this inaugural year are:
Audrey Akoto of Doherty Memorial High School
Leilah Ali of South High Community School
Matina Amoakohene-Kersey of Worcester Technical High School
Michael Arellano of Doherty Memorial High School
Avriana Baker of South High Community School
Jemima Boateng of Worcester Technical High School
Julissa Guevara of Claremont Academy
Nahun Guzman of Burncoat High School
Cooper Hoskins of Burncoat High School
Anna Mitchell of South High Community School
Jorgea Nico of Doherty Memorial High School
Juno Opare of North High School
Nico Blier Ortiz of Burncoat High School
Anjel Marie Pizarro of South High Community School
Vieve Sweetser of Burncoat High School
“I was drawn to the program because I want to pursue a career in the arts, which is not a particularly easy thing to do,” says sophomore Vieve Sweetser. “Finding support systems for that is crucial. I am excited to be around others who have similar goals and interests as me, and to be able to learn from people who already have experience in the field I want to work in.”
The Future Arts Workers of Worcester are generously supported by the Hanover Insurance Group Foundation, the Hermann Foundation, Greater Worcester Community Foundation, and the Clementi Family Charitable Trust.
