Winter by the Water in New England
Inspired by: Laura McPhee, The Blue Lagoon Lionel Reinford, Winter in New England
acrylic on canvas
24″ x36″ x 1.5″
2023
People have always loved to live along the water for its beauty and utility. As we enter an era of a changing climate, New England will experience sea level rise and more extreme precipitation events every winter. Learning to adjust to this new environment will be a challenge faced by local communities which have been right at the water’s edge for hundreds of years. As a lifelong New Englander I was drawn to both Winter in New England with its old fashioned idealized winter (a type of cold winter that will be less frequent) and The Blue Lagoon with the thought of how people live near and use the water near them.

Vibrant Geometry
acrylic on canvas
24”x 24”
2022
For this abstract piece I wanted to use shapes, lines, and color to contemplate order and spontaneity, balance and disruption. The palette of blues and greens is taken from of my abstract landscapes and placed in a new modern setting.

Holding the Ocean
sculpture from wire, encaustic, paint, repurposed fabric
7” x 7” x 7”
2023
As a painter I often approach representing the ocean in abstract ways. With this sculpture I took a 3D journey into an abstract painting, capturing the feel with color and texture in all dimensions.

Woodland Scarf
fabrics, wool embroidery thread, wood
6” x 14” x 36”
2022
I created this abstract scarf with a focus on texture and abstract forest elements. I’m imagining a woodland fairy hanging their scarf on tree branches at the end of their day. The circular shape of a wrapped scarf has always reminded me of birds’ nests – maybe a bird will come and make a nest while the scarf is unattended.

Plate Collection
Inspired by: Unknown Artist, English Teapot Mixteca-Puebla Artist, Tripod Bowl
acrylic on canvas
12” x 12” x 1.5″
2024
People have always liked to collect plates and bowls, and as the English Teapot shows we have also always liked to show them off. My painting is on a square canvas to indicate the modern way of showing off our collections on social media.
