About Material Needs 2024

September 5 through October 20, 2024

ArtsWorcester main galleries, 44 Portland Street

Public reception: Wednesday, September 4, 6:00-8:00 PM as part of our Annual Celebration /// Free and open to all. Cash bar.

During the past year, 8 artists have been busy making use of the Material Needs Grant they won in 2023. Those awards, ranging from $500 to $1,500, fund the cost of supplies required to make new artwork in Worcester County. A year and a half later, awardees exhibit their completed artwork in a group exhibition.

The 2023-2024 grants funded a variety of materials, such as printmaking supplies, large wooden panels, transparent paper, and spray paint. This year’s exhibition includes portraits of Worcester residents in a street art style, large-scale paintings that document the beauty of the mundane, a multi-media installation of digitally scanned plant imagery, and more.

To date, ninety-five artists have had their careers advanced through a Material Needs Grant. Thank you to the anonymous donor who makes this possible.
