“A work of art is above all an adventure of the mind.” -Eugene Ionesco

November 29, 2007

Dear Friend of ARTSWorcester:

Whether your passion is Abstract or Realism, photography or sculpture, Vivaldi or Charlie Parker, ARTSWorcester invites you to share in an arts adventure. Our artist members transcend the limits of their chosen media to strike a universal chord, creating an exceptional exchange of thought and emotion. Generous support from our friends to the ARTSWorcester Annual Fund makes this dialogue possible and free to all. I’m writing to you today on behalf of our members to ask for your assistance.

During 2007, in a wide range of venues across Worcester, thousands of visitors visited ARTSWorcester exhibitions ranging from emerging artists at the College Exhibition to established artists at Biennial 2007. Live Art Fusion evenings were held at the Aurora Gallery. Collaborations continued with the Worcester Historical Museum, Worcester Center for Crafts, Worcester Art Museum, and the Colleges of Worcester Consortium. AW participated in local art festivals, including Canal Fest, stART on the Street, and Mechanics Hall’s 150th Anniversary Open House. With funding from the Kirby Foundation, AW inaugurated the year-long Kirby Gallery Scholar Program, offering an invaluable life experience to a young intern interested in pursuing a career as an arts professional, while providing much-needed service to ARTSWorcester.

ARTSWorcester increased opportunities for performing and literary artist members at Aurora Nights open-mic concerts at the Aurora Gallery; at the Sovereign Bank Concert Series at Saint Vincent Hospital; and at intimate Sunday afternoon Musicales. Adding depth to our programming, AW now has two new fiscal performing artist partners: Worcester Chamber Music Society and Worcester Collegium. As part of the Worcester Cultural Coalition, AW advocates for the cultural community on local, state, and federal levels. A substantial update to our management system is AW’s new credit card program.

This coming year promises even more. In 2008, over 400 artists will be presented in 25 group and solo exhibitions throughout Worcester: at the historic Aurora Gallery, the Quinsigamond Community College galleries, the Greater Worcester Community Foundation, and at the employee art program at UNUM. And ARTSWorcester will also manage the art gallery in the new Hanover Theatre for the Performing Arts—a dynamic showcase with high exposure for all artists.

To continue to offer a place where the artist and public meet, please help us reach AW’s individual support goal of $30,000, nearly a third of our annual budget. As 2007 comes to a close, your support of ARTSWorcester’s Annual Fund will make a difference. I hope you will become a partner in our efforts and join us on our adventure.

With best wishes for the holiday season,

Janice E. Seymour
