The Art of “No Mush Today”: Picture Book Illustrations by Nicole Tadgell
Artist Reception
Tuesday, February 3, 2009 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the ARTSWorcester Celebration Gallery at Quinsigamond Community College. Artist gallery walk will take place from 7:00 pm - 7:30 pm. This event is free and open to the public and will feature refreshments.
The Art of "No Mush Today" is an exhibition of selected illustrations by Nicole Tadgell from the recently released children's book, No Mush Today by Sally Derby. A graduate of Wheaton College with a Bachelors Degree in Art, Tadgell has made her career as an artist with a primary focus on illustrating children's books, including Josias, Hold the Book by Jennifer Reismeyer Elvgren, Lights Out by Angela Shelf Medearis, A Day with Daddy by Nikki Grimes, Fatuma's New Cloth by Leslie Bulion, and I'll Do The Right Thing by Jean Alicia Elster.
Tadgell works primarily in watercolors because she loves the freedom of the medium. She explains, "Watercolors are my medium of choice. I love the fluidity, and unpredictable surprises. I'm always learning something new with watercolor. Illustrating picture books is an interesting mix of compromises between author, illustrator, and publisher. It's also a unification of ideas between the author's text and the illustrator's interpretation."
