Artist Reception: Friday, March 28, 2008 from 6:00 – 9:00 pm at ARTSWorcester’s Aurora Gallery 660 Main Street, Worcester, MA. This event is free and open to the public and will feature refreshments and music.

Shifting Gears is an artistic interpretation of the mechanical and industrial processes in Worcester in 1898. The exhibition will showcase work inspired by the standardized mass-production machinery of Worcester-based companies such as the Cereal Machine Company and Wyman Gordon. The exhibition will also serve as a visual exploration of the experiences of the labor force in Worcester during this time period. Shifting Gears will be juried for prizes by William Wallace, Executive Director of the Worcester Historical Museum and local artist Terri Priest.

Shifting Gears – Worcester 1898 is supported by The George F. Sybil H. Fuller Foundation and the Worcester Cultural Commission, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. ARTSWorcester recognizes Worcester Gears and Rack Inc. of North Oxford, MA and John Rives of Worcester, MA for their donations of industrial materials to the artists who participated in the exhibition.

Gallery hours: Tuesdays and Saturdays 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Extended hours are available by appointment. Gallery is closed Sunday and Monday. Free and open to the public.

Opening April 9, through July 11, 2008 is Transcending the Blossom, an exhibition of floral paintings ARTSWorcester member Laurie Atchue.

Currently at the ARTSWorcester Gallery at the Hanover Theatre: through June 1, 2008 is Scratching the Surface, the premiere art exhibition at the newly restored Hanover Theatre showcasing works of art from a variety of established and internationally celebrated Worcester-based artists.
