One Year in Worcester County - Photographs by Mike Nyman

Artist Reception: Tuesday, September 16, 2008 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the ARTSWorcester Hall Gallery at Quinsigamond Community College. Artist gallery walk will take place from 6:30 pm - 7:00 pm. This event is free and open to the public and will feature refreshments and live music by the Latin jazz band NQ Musicians.

One Year in Worcester County is an exhibition of selected photographs by Mike Nyman, exploring his personal experiences within Worcester over the course of one year. Each photograph is accompanied by a description of the location and commentary describing Mike's interest in his chosen subject matter.

Mike Nyman moved from Chicago, Illinois to Worcester, Massachusetts during the summer of 1998. Despite his deep love for Chicago, and the fact he feels "it has more things to do and see than one can realistically fit into a lifetime," Mike took an immediate liking to Worcester. He states, "I was a bit surprised to find that many people I talked to did not have the best things to say about their city. It seemed they considered the better days to be in the past and now they could only live in the shadow of Boston or Providence. I decided I wanted to do more than simply like my new city. I wanted to really love it. I gave myself the assignment to post a new picture everyday, perhaps with commentary, to transform my own thinking about what I sense is a great place in which to live. Perhaps, along the way, I will persuade some other people in Worcester."

Gallery hours: The ARTSWorcester Hall Gallery at QCC hours are Monday - Friday, 9:00am -7:00pm, is located in the main hallway of the Administrative Building at Quinsigamond Community College, and is free and open to the public.
