Latino Surroundings: Works by Edmy Ortiz

Artist Reception: Tuesday, September 16, 2008 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the Quinsigamond Community College Diversity Gallery. Artist gallery walk will take place from 7:00 pm - 7:30 pm. This event is free and open to the public and will feature refreshments and live music by the Latin jazz band: NQ Musicians.

Latino Surroundings is selection of paintings created by Dominican artist Edmy Ortiz. Born in Santo Domingo, Edmy recognized her joy and ability to paint at a very early age. Edmy cultivated her talent by studying oil painting at Escuela de Arte Thelma Tejada and receiving her BA in Architecture at the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo. The artist continued to refine her talent through studies in studio art and critique courses at the Worcester Art Museum.

Edmy's vibrant paintings are a visual tribute to the beauty and rich cultural heritage of her home, Santo Domingo. Edmy's works are an exploration of her personal experiences and memories growing up in the Dominican Republic through the form of landscapes, traditional architectual structures, and bright, abstract imagery.

Gallery hours: The QCC Celebration Gallery hours are Monday - Friday, 9:00am -7:00pm, is located in the Administrative Building at Quinsigamond Community College, and is free and open to the public.
