L'État Immolé is defined as a state of immolation; the eternal sacrifice. Burris centralizes his work around themes of transcendence in death, loss, and traumatic crisis. As a Lieutenant in the Worcester Fire Department, Burris's personal experiences with sacrifice fuel the inspiration for his work. Ceglinski finds himself inspired by the juxtapositions that exist between dream and memory, being and belonging. In this, Ceglinski seeks to express a sense of being lost and the idea of exhibition as a forum for public sacrifice; what is consumed, what is rejected, and what remains in the end. Together painting in collaboration for over twenty years, Burris and Ceglinski arrive from differing points of view and technique; yet unfailingly manage to respect what each imparts to the combined effort.
