Presented by ARTSWorcester at the Franklin Square Society Salon Gallery at the Hanover Theatre for the Performing Arts
2 Southbridge Street Worcester, MA 01608

Both an artist and designer of Indian garments, Shoba’s journey in discovering her passion for art began as an “unintended consequence of a trip to a gallery with my sister.”  She began painting in 2004 and since then has created a stunning collection of works with a central focus on blooming flowers, characterized by brilliant and intense colors.  Shoba explains her livelihood as a fashion designer provided her with an opportunity to develop a delicate discretion for colors.  She also credits art lessons taken with Bill Griffiths and Ella Delayanis at the Worcester Art Museum with helping her develop a strong sense of basic color principles and theory.  Painting has provided Shoba with “relaxation, serenity, and a trip away from day to day living.”

Born in Madras, India, Shoba received her Masters Degree in Textiles and Clothing from the University of Madras, Chennai, India and has studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York.  She is currently President and CEO of Shoba Balaji, Inc., an organic linen and fine prints company, a unique venture which brings together her artwork and in-depth knowledge of textiles.
