Marla is an emerging fine-art photographer, currently living in North Oxford MA. Showing in several area juried Museum shows and other venues, Marla enjoys sharing her visions with others.
Marla attended Atlantic Union College as an Art Major. Though she also paints with oils, acrylic, and pastels, and loves to draw, photography was always her favorite. While in college she was a darkroom lab assistant to her peers and worked for many years in her personal darkroom at home.
Marla has always preferred working in black and white or a toned print, rather than color – “Like a haiku, which expresses much in few words, black and white photography must express much within its content, rather than relying on pretty, bright, or interesting colors.”
Marla has always loved to work with abstract visions, many times hiding the object in plain sight; contrast and texture; personal space images have always been important. More recently, she has discovered the joy of photographing people in interesting situations. Abstract images of everyday objects mixed with images of people, Marla is happily growing every day. “I am blessed to see the beauty in the simple things others may not notice.”
