Nature and landscape are a constant source of inspiration for my work. I am interested in the beauty of quiet moments, the rhythms of nature, the passage of time, often overlooked, ephemeral moments, and the spiritual elements these moments bring to my process and to the viewer. I try to capture the spiritual qualities of a place through the culmination of my choice of image, presenting a small moment to the viewer on a large scale, and the many hours and layers of color and mark-making that go into the final painting. I work in both oil and watercolor on site making many drawings and on occasion, I work from reference photos. The process begins with knowing a place well, spending time with the woodlands, creating many drawings, and looking very closely.
